I am getting spoiled this year and loving every minute of it! My husband bought me another early Christmas present! A 6×8 Intuous3 tablet and it came with a pen, a mouse, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Painter Essentials 3
, Nik Color Efex Pro 2 IE
, and Wacom Brushes 2.
Do I know what all that does? Nope! But it sounds exciting doesn’t it?

I heard great things about the Intuos3 for years from several online colleagues. They use the tablet and pen for artwork, to improve the quality of their photographs, and to design advertisements. But at $330, I just couldn’t justify buying it.
Then two weeks ago, one of my online photography groups gave its members an assignment: take an old photograph and give it a complete overhaul. It was my first attempt to do anything other than resizing with PaintShop Pro and I soon remembered why. I had extreme difficulty using the mouse to crop a picture and therefore was unable to remove the background. And because I couldn’t align things correctly with the mouse, the color changes weren’t going according to plan.
So back to my group I went for suggestions and tips. Number one response: “The mouse is too difficult to use for those sorts of things. Invest in a tablet.”
While I get to see my present early, dear husband wants me to wait until Christmas to play with it—or I won’t have anything under the tree. (Nine days isn’t that long-g-g-g, or is it?) But don’t worry, I’ll let you know how it works out.
What tools do you use to manipulate your photographs?

Now that I have my beautiful Nikon D-80 camera, I’ve been a bit leery to take the camera out of the box, let alone out of the house. I kept thinking, “What happens if I get dust or debris on the lens?”

But after doing some research and talking with other “professional” photographers, I’ve been introduced to a great little gadget: a lens pen.
Basically, how it works is this:
It’s that simple.
Of course, the lens pen is only for light cleaning. Now if I want to clean a really dirty lens, I’ll have to use a wipe and solution but let’s pray I won’t ever have to go there!
What do you use to clean your camera with? Any special trick or tip you can share?
