Cowgirl Up!

Monday, June 21st, 2010 by Alyice

Last night, as I watched reruns of Leverage, Season 2, I decided to try my hand at papercutting. I really love what papercut artists can do with a simple piece of paper and a pair of tiny scissors. I, however, was not successful.

Still wanting to play with paper though, I opted to do the next best thing and create a paper collage.

I created this collage by cutting one of my hand painted background papers 7 inches high and 5 inches wide. Then I cut up cardstock for the body, face, hair, and hat.

Using Mod Podge, I put the pieces together like a puzzle. Then when the adhesive dried, I used acrylic paint to accent the hair and color in the shirt and face.

You wouldn’t know it by looking at the card, but I spent one hour on the hair alone. I cut individual strands of hair, all varying sizes and thickness, then one by one I attached them to the head.

Next time I’d like to give this technique a try with thinner, patterned paper and leave the acrylic paints out of the mix.

A Little Bird Told Me

Saturday, May 29th, 2010 by Alyice

I can’t believe it’s been six months since I’ve shown you a greeting card. I’m still making them, but haven’t been uploading any to Zazzle as I’ve yet to figure out how to profit from the site and am seriously considering creating an e-product in which buyers would be able to purchase one of my card designs as a pdf file and use it for non-commercial purposes an unlimited number of times.

These two pieces were actually parts of a larger work. Something about them called to me to separate them and turn them into greeting card designs. Aren’t they cute?

Just A Couple Of Gators

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 by Alyice

Awhile back a colleague commented on how much she liked the picture of a gator I took during our summer trip to the Reptile Gardens in Rapid City, South Dakota—so much so that she bought one of the magnets!

After thinking about how much she’s enjoyed her gator magnet, I thought I’d have a little fun with the guy and create a couple of greeting cards.

First I started by digitally distressing the image to give it an aged look, then I tweaked it in Corel Painter Essentials to come up with three new looks. Finally, I took three of the altered images to create the cute card you see below:
