Got A Baby In The Family?

Monday, August 16th, 2010 by Alyice

There was a rumor going around that my niece-in-law was expecting her first child. So I decided to make some cute baby-themed Christmas ornaments. Unfortunately, we’ve since been told that it was “just a rumor” and no baby is coming.

This grab bag includes a print of one of my mixed media pieces attached to a blank greeting card. I just love all the swirls and colors: white, blue, green, grey, brown, and yes, even purple.

It also includes four beaded ornament hangers and four hand painted—and hand cut—baby ornaments.

The front side is detailed with dark blue paint and a little glitter. The back side has been decoupaged with scraps from an old book, then outlined in gold.

I actually have two sets of these ornaments created, therefore this listing is for grab bags number 10 and 11—should you like to request them specifically.

Grab Bags 7 8 and 9

Monday, July 19th, 2010 by Alyice

I just got done packaging three more Mystery Art Grab Bags. Each time I create one of these grab bags, I can’t help but be reminded of the joy I had, as a young child, reaching into that grab bag bin and pulling out a treasure of goodies—all wrapped up in a brown paper sack.

Here are the next three miniature works of art up for grabs.

Home Sweet Home

I originally created this image for a “We’ve Moved” announcement which is sold on Zazzle. But the more I gazed upon the image the more I thought about those cross-stitched “Home Sweet Home” wall hangings of the 50s and thought, “I bet a little hand stitching on this image would be cute.” And you know what? I was right!

This grab bag comes with the “Home Sweet Home” hand embroidered (stitched) greeting card that is suitable for framing, a hand crocheted pot warmer, and two hand painted and hand cut paper ornaments.

You may recall me teaching you how to create the image on this card here. It takes a couple of hours to stitch but the effect is so worth it!

This grab bag comes with the hand embroidered flower (which is placed onto a blank 5×7 greeting card using black foam risers), and two hand painted and hand cut paper ornaments: a bird and a star.

Salute To Soldiers

Most of my brothers-in-law have spent time serving our country, as have my biological father, my step-father, and my maternal grandfather. Even my husband joined the forces for a bit. So I have a lot of appreciation—and admiration—for soldiers and the sacrifices they make to keep me and mine safe and free.

This grab bag includes the soldier greeting card—which is a silhouette of my father-in-law on top of hand painted paper. The hat is pieced together from three pieces of cardstock, then painted and outlined. The text is a quote by Hans Christian Anderson and reads: “One must have freedom, and a little flower.”

The grab bag also includes a hand crocheted pot warmer and two hand painted and hand cut paper ornaments. (The bird’s eye is foggy, it’s not a blur.)

Grab Bags 4 5 and 6

Saturday, July 17th, 2010 by Alyice

I just got done packaging three more Mystery Art Grab Bags. I thought I’d only have fun creating these miniature works of art, but I am finding it just as much fun wrapping them in tissue paper and twine, packaging them, and numbering them.

Yep, I started numbering the boxes to correspond with the images shown on the blog.

I originally did it to keep track of how many grab bags I create, then I realized that if someone falls in love with a specific grab bag, they can tell me which one they like and if it’s still available I can ship it to them. Otherwise, they’ll just have to receive one of the other grab bags and let the art remain a mystery.

Family Trust

Growing up wasn’t easy in my household but no matter how hard it was, I knew that I could trust my mother to keep me safe—as did my husband. The image on the “Trust Me” card is actually a silhouette of my mother-in-law.

In this grab bag, you’ll receive the “Trust Me” card, plus a hand painted paper ornament that has been embroidered with the words, “Live. Love. Laugh.” (It is one of my one of my all-time favorite sayings!) And a hand painted greeting card with the word, “Friends” typed on vellum and glued to on top the flower.

Family Friends

Today, I am blessed with a husband who truly is my best friend and two wonderful children who are growing up to become very dear friends.

In this grab bag you will receive a 23″x8″ hand crocheted plate warmer that can double as a mini table runner. If you unfold the warmer, there’s room for three dishes. If, however, you have an extra hot plate, you can fold the warmer up to create a single square.

You’ll also receive a “family” greeting card and a cute paper bird ornament that was collaged with various paper scraps, then hand painted and cut.

A Little of Mom

In 2008, I wrote a post about how my mother was thought to have a little Indian in her. In that post, I also showed you a hand painted piece of abstract art. That art has been reproduced into a 4×6 print that has been mounted onto a blank 5×7 greeting card.

In this grab bag you’ll also receive an eight inch, dark blue hand crocheted plate warmer made with worsted yarn from Red Heart and two hand painted paper ornaments: a bird and a star.
