Last night, as I watched reruns of Leverage, Season 2, I decided to try my hand at papercutting. I really love what papercut artists can do with a simple piece of paper and a pair of tiny scissors. I, however, was not successful.
Still wanting to play with paper though, I opted to do the next best thing and create a paper collage.

I created this collage by cutting one of my hand painted background papers 7 inches high and 5 inches wide. Then I cut up cardstock for the body, face, hair, and hat.
Using Mod Podge, I put the pieces together like a puzzle. Then when the adhesive dried, I used acrylic paint to accent the hair and color in the shirt and face.
You wouldn’t know it by looking at the card, but I spent one hour on the hair alone. I cut individual strands of hair, all varying sizes and thickness, then one by one I attached them to the head.

Next time I’d like to give this technique a try with thinner, patterned paper and leave the acrylic paints out of the mix.
Keep Creating
