It’s been years since I sent an Easter card to someone. Not really sure why, but I suspect it’s because my kids stopped creating crafts with me. This year, however, as part of my commitment to create art again I joined an Easter Card swap on Swap-bot and to make it more fun, I turned it into a challenge: Go Green, Recycle.
I created this Easter card using scrap materials I had laying around the art studio.
What do you think?

Embroidery Stitched Easter Card © Alyice Edrich, 2010
Supplies:
- Card stock
- Blank greeting card
- Blank envelope
- Embroidery thread
- Embroider needle
- Seam ripper
- Scissors
- Ribbon or lace
Instructions:
- Draw an egg shape on a scrap of card stock.
- Cut out the egg to create a template.
- Trace the egg onto the front of a blank greeting card.
- Handwrite the words, “Happy Easter” inside the egg.
- Use seam ripper to create evenly distributed holes on the letters and egg outline for stitching.
- Stitch the outline of the egg and the words with embroidery thread.
- Cut four strips of ribbon.
(You can do this two ways: measure the long and short side of the card, then measure the ribbon and cut. Or place the ribbon on top of one side of the card to measure a strip and cut while ribbon is still laying on top of the card. Do the same to the remaining three sides.)
- Stitch the ribbon to the card, creating a border.
(If you use a polka dot pattern, you can stitch random “dots” to adhere the ribbon to the card without making any noticeable stitches. Otherwise, you can create a fancy stitch, such as a zig-zag, through the middle of the ribbon, continuing to do so until you have all four strips secured to the face of the card.)
