I don’t know about you, but sometimes I see a craft kit and I think, “That’s cute” but I would never, in a million years, use that. And yet, I really liked the color scheme or the materials supplied in the kit. And so… I buy the kit.
And then I repurpose the kit.
Take the Beaded Cross Kit by Darice. It was originally created to help crafters create eight quick and easy beaded cross ornaments.
I, however, saw another purpose!

A mini-cross pendant for a necklace (see my tutorial on Crafts Unleashed), a dangly for a rearview car mirror, an accent for a gift tag, and yes, even a dangly for my birdie ornaments!
The key to repurposing kits is to think outside the box. To allow for flexibility, and for the introduction of new materials.
Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of the kit materials. For instance, the beads in this kit are made of a really cheap plastic. That means I wouldn’t create pendants for adult necklaces using this kit, but I would have no problem creating pendants for my tween nieces—who change their fashion statements at the drop of hat, depending upon the latest trends.
Keep Creating
