Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved the idea of fairies. I think it all started with Disney’s version of Tinker Bell. Though Tink was a bit of a stinker—with her jealousy streak—she was also quite charming, magical, and mysterious, and I liked that about her.

As a child, I often enjoyed a good story—especially one that transported me out of my time and into another. But nothing was more fun than imagining I had special powers that could save the planet, help others, and provide me with a life of adventure and joy. So while other kids were daydreaming of superheroes, I was daydreaming of fairies, amongst other things.
In my mind, superheroes were completely make-believe. They existed in shows like Bionic Woman and Wonder Woman and ElectraWoman and DynaGirl
as a way to give children hope and to fuel their imaginations. But fairies, they were as real to me as angels. They were God’s gift to man and they need not be seen. They took joy in making the world run smoothly, despite man’s constant attempts at sabotaging it—and they enjoyed a life we, humans, only dreamt of.
I really liked the idea of a world within a world. Of being able to escape my reality and live somewhere else—somewhere more peaceful, somewhere filled with beauty and love and kindness, somewhere where my natural talents would be nurtured and utilized. And I liked the mystery of fairies.

I also loved the idea of having magical powers that were based upon natural evolution or the laws and physics of nature and not upon some satanic ritual or calling upon the devil. I liked the idea of good magic—magic that came from a pure heart; magic that was meant to make things better.
And I loved the freedom that came with butterfly-like wings. Can you imagine being able to go anywhere you wanted, whenever you wanted—and all without the use of transportation that costs lots of money and pollutes the air we breathe?
As an adult, I very much doubt I’ll ever see a fairy, nor can I claim to have ever seen one as a child, but the idea of believing they just might be out there living amongst us is still a fun fantasy to explore once in awhile.

Love the fairy painting. I wasn’t really into fantasy and going some were else but I always wished I had the magical powers. I’d watch any magical (witch) show and dream and wish to be them.
