1880s Church

I am very fond of the 1880s church I found during a recent vacation. It’s such a beautiful, serene looking church. Every time I look at the original image it takes my breath away. I know that our society loves everything new, modern, and upscale. I know that many growing churches prefer buildings that offer a lot more space and functionality, but those corporate-like buildings often leave me feeling cold and distant. Traditional looking churches, like this one, just seem more inviting. It’s as though you can walk through the doors to find God waiting to greet you—with arms opened wide.

Here’s one of the renditions I did of the church using Paint Shop Pro X2®.

So true, the serenity and holiness are more evident in simple looking churches. That is why, I prefer going to old small churches that are devoid of arcs and beams.

Sadly, many of the smaller churches, the ones that actually resemble a church are being torn down for commercial-like structures. Some churches start out in commercial buildings these days, then when there is a big enough membership they buy the building or build one similar to it. Gosh I miss the days when architecture was about design and functunability and not just functionability. I miss the days when a building was made to be beautiful and not just functional.

    Hi Alyice,
On the top one I used an overlay paint brush to add some color to that stark white paper I collaged on and I think I added some shadows too. The stamps were added on the original. It looks much better online than it does in person!
