This is a “catch all” I created out of an old peanut canister. I call it “Earth Tones” because it reminds me of something you’d find in a Native American hut many, many years ago. Its simple elegance draws me to it and I had a hard time giving it up.

I made it for a young mom who wanted something nice to place on her kitchen table but didn’t want glass for fear that her little ones would knock it over and break it.

Even at $4 per gallon, I can’t help but feel grateful for the milk we’re able to consume. But more importantly, I am especially grateful that I do not have to get up before dusk every morning to milk the cows, pasteurize the milk, and flash freeze it so that I could enjoy a nice cold glass.

Milk is a delicious, soothing drink. It’s also a wonderful ingredient in many treats from milkshakes to puddings to creams. And most importantly, according to the National Dairy Council, “Milk contains nine essential nutrients, making it one of the most nutrient-rich beverages you can enjoy.”

And the meat…
What can I say? I have yet to conform to vegetarianism. As much as I hate the idea of slaughtering animals for food, I still enjoy a good burger. And on special occasions, a nice steak.
But I’ll also be very honest here. Every day that I drive by these cute creatures, or see them being carted in those large livestock trucks, I can’t help but wonder what an all vegetarian diet would be like. And I become very aware of the lives they give up to sustain my family and very aware of the hard (and dangerous) jobs meat packing employees face on a daily basis.
Give thanks…

Two weeks ago I joined my husband at his company picnic—thanks Adams Thermal Systems, Inc. in Canton, SD, we had a great time!—and brought along my camera. My kids weren’t too keen on the idea of me taking photos of them so I opted for a few impromptu photo sessions with my husband’s boss’ twins. Of course the lighting wasn’t the greatest since we were under the trees trying to keep cool, but I did manage a few cute shots.
This is my “modern art” version. I don’t know what it is about this particular photo that prompted me to turn into a piece of visual art, but I love it!
